For applicants who have studied at an institution where English is the language of instruction, the language test requirement may be waived. Some Advanced Placement (AP), A-Level, and International Baccalaureate (IB) credits can be used for RISD liberal arts requirements. First-year students can transfer a maximum of nine credits from AP courses with a score of 4 or 5, from A-level grades with a grade of C or higher, or from higher IB grades of 5, 6 or 7. RISD does not accept AP or IB credits for art or studio classes.

If you wish, you can only apply to one school for an advance decision. If you do, you can apply to the second school for the regular decision period. Alternatively, you can apply to both schools for the appropriate deadline for regular decision. You will use the same brown| Response to the RISD Dual Degree complementary test in both applications. Each school publishes its decision separately. Then Brown| RISD Dual Degree decisions arrive at the end of March.
