As the legal team is experiencing great growth, this is a newly created position that offers the opportunity to work closely with the Chief Legal Officer and Senior Counsel and support business activities. This is the perfect opportunity for a Junior Business Advisor to take on a career-defining role that ensures growth and development in the life sciences and not-for-profit sectors. Day-to-day operations include drafting/reviewing/negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and providing legal advice to all industries, from finance and human resources to procurement and IT, as well as supporting the many innovative scientific programs. Prior to joining Lee & Thompson in 2019, Damian gained experience in film, television and gaming as legal counsel at Wellcome Trust. Damian has led Wellcome`s entertainment and media projects, including Carol Morley`s Out of Blue, Sarah Gavron`s upcoming Girls Untitled project, Craig Roberts` Eternal Beauty, Cathy Brady`s Wildfire, and Ninja Theory`s Hellblade: Senua`s Sacrifice. In addition to this work, Damian has also advised on Wellcome`s intellectual property, transaction and negotiation matters. Chris Bird is Senior Legal Counsel to Wellcome and is responsible for managing all legal requirements of Wellcome and its subsidiaries. DMJ is proud to partner with the Wellcome Sanger Institute to find legal advice. Damian was trained and qualified at a city law firm after completing his LLB at Oxford University and his LPC at the University of Law. The team works on a hybrid basis with the expectation of an office presence 2 days a week on their beautiful Cambridge campus, meetings with key company stakeholders and enjoying their collegial and collaborative team culture. Prior to joining Wellcome in 2000, Chris was a partner at Osborne Clarke LLP. Damian is a Senior Partner in our Cinema & TV Group and advises on the development, production, financing and distribution of film and television projects.

During his time here, Chris has been involved and has led some of our most well-known political projects and interests. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, the Wellcome Sanger Institute is a UK non-profit institution funded primarily by the Wellcome Trust and actively contributing to the latest scientific developments in the life sciences sector. They are world leaders in genome research and provide information on human, evolutionary and pathogenic biology.
