New York Times critic Ginia Bellafante gave the pilot a positive note: «A new legal series that begins Thursday in the United States comes out of a Vesuvius of absurdities, and yet, like so many others in the United States, it comes in relatively good faith — not just with a biting sense of one`s own pleasure, but also with Chipper`s belief in the viability of renewal.» In a Miami Herald review, Glenn Garvin called the show «funny cut.» BuddyTV described Suits as «a great summer show and, more than that, a very high quality TV room.» Mike is sentenced to two years in prison at the mercy of Frank Gallo, an inmate resentful of Harvey. He told The Hollywood Reporter that Mike has come a long way from the beginning of the series to the point where he is now a lawyer. «I had that voice in my head that we were telling his story and if he hangs around longer, Mike will be just another lawyer on TV,» Adams said. «It didn`t seem right to him. The appearance of a suit is just as important as the person wearing it. It also distracts Mike and his mind and casts a wider net by focusing on lawyers in general. While Mike`s photographic memory and knowledge of Law is an interesting hook, it`s the cast of characters and the circumstances surrounding them that make the series popular.
