The use of vehicles and loads whose weight exceeds the limits prescribed by law is permitted only if the weight is subject to a condition of approval. If these loads or vehicles have been divided into smaller loads or vehicles: The purpose of the individual travel authorization is to facilitate the movement (single journey) of a load with exceptional dimensions/weights according to a specific route for a limited period of time. Some applications may be reviewed by the head office in St. Catharines. Prior to the development of the MCO, it is recommended that the carrier conduct a physical analysis of the route to determine the specific locations where the certified exceptional load attendant is to assist with traffic control.

During this analysis, the carrier also selects suitable emergency stopping locations in case of adverse weather conditions or the need for overnight parking. Allowable charges are reduced during thaw periods. However, the cargo shall not consist of objects loaded or placed one behind the other in such a way as to lengthen the length of the cargo.
